§ 14-49. Emergency management coordinator (if designated by city manager).

  • The emergency management coordinator shall:

    (1)

    Cause to be prepared and maintained an emergency operations plan.

    (2)

    Be responsible for the development and coordination of emergency plans for the immediate use of all of the facilities, equipment, manpower and other resources of the city for the purpose of minimizing or preventing damage to persons and property in the event of a disaster, and for the purpose of protecting and restoring to usefulness governmental services and public utilities necessary for the public health, safety and welfare in the event of a disaster emergency.

    (3)

    Be responsible for, through public information programs, educating the civilian population as to actions necessary and required for the protection of persons and property, and providing and maintaining a public warning system to alert the public in case of an impending or present disaster emergency.

    (4)

    Be responsible for conducting rehearsals of emergency plans to ensure the efficient mobilization, utilization and coordination of the emergency management team and to familiarize residents with emergency management regulations, procedures and operations.

    (5)

    Be responsible for coordinating the activity of all other public and private agencies engaged in any disaster emergency activity within the city.

    (6)

    Be responsible for administering federal and state disaster assistance programs related to emergency management.
