§ 18-108. Duties and powers.

  • The fire chief shall be the chief executive officer of the fire department, and shall fulfill all responsibilities pertaining to his department including, but not limited to, personnel management, planning and organization, budget preparation and control, establishing policies and procedures, training of personnel, vehicle and facility maintenance, fire service communications, inventory control, emergency scene management/coordination, fire prevention and education activities, and submitting necessary records and reports pertaining to the fire department. The fire chief shall be appointed by the city manager. The fire chief shall have full authority to reprimand, suspend, or discharge any member, whether paid or volunteer, who fails to comply with the department's rules, regulations, or procedures in accordance with the city's personnel policies.
